NA, pron, he, she, it, used before the verb. generally, but not always used only with transitive verbs. see IA.

NA, verb particle signifying the past tense. generally denotes an action or state of shorter duration than does sa. Na alu i Apia le pasi. The bus went to Apia.

NA, adj. those (near the person spoken to) see LENA.O fa'i na - those bananas.

NA, v.t. 1. to quiet or hush a child 2. to hide or conceal something 3. to keep an unpleasant thing or situation from public knowledge. a;sp nana, faana.

NA, adv. only, when followed by a verb the form na `ona is used. Ahe can only lie down but cannot sleep. E na ona mafai ona taoto i lalo ae le mafai ona moe. When followed by a noun or pronoun the form na `ona'is used. Only Samu can go. Na o Samu e mafai ona alu.

NANA, v.t. to hide or conceal something, to keep something from public knowledge.

NANEI, adv. after a while.

NANU, v.i. 1. to stutter. 2. to speak a foreign language. e.g. English

NENEFU, adj. to be dim, to be indistinct, to be blurred. syn. FAANENEFU.

NIU, n. 1. the coconut tree, niu of le faatoaga. 2. an immature coconut. lana niu. see POPO.

NIFO, n. a tooth, an animals horn lona nifo.

NILA, n. a needle. lana nila.

NIMO, v.i. to be out of sight. `Ua vave ona nimo atu le vaalele. The plane was quickly out of sight.

NI NAI, article. some few, a few.

NINI, v.t. to apply ointment etc. to the skin

NINI'I, adj. small. see LILI'I.

NINIVA, adj. dizzy, light- headed, giddy, sickish, nauseated.

NISI, (NI ISI), adj. some other, other, any others. see ISI.

NOANOA, v.t. to bind or tie up, pass. noanoatia, syn. SAISAI.

NOANOAGA, n. bonds (of rope, etc) fastenings, something with which or by which one is bound. noanoaga a Satani, Bonds of Satan.

NOFO, v.i. 1.to sit. 2. to remain. 3. to live (at a certain location) see ALAALA.

NOFOA, n. a chair,lona nofoa.

NOFO AITALAFU, v.i. to be indebted. Tatou te nonofo aitalafu i le Atua. We are indebted to God.

NONO, v.t. to borrow. also NO. see FAANOI.

NONOA, v.t. to tie, (of ropes knots, etc) to knot.

NU'U, n. 1. a village. 2. a people lona nuu. see TAGATA.

NUSIPEPA, n. newspaper. lana nusipepa.

NUTI, v.t. to break in very small pieces. pl. nunuti.

NUTIPALA, v.t. to crush to dust. pass. nutipalaina. also NUTI MOMOMOINA.
