Special Request  by Kawen Young, July 2001

I would like to recognize my grandfather, Alexander Leausa Forsythe, who served in New Zealand during the Boer War at the turn of the 20th century. He was to be deploy to South Africa, but his father Alex Sr, made arrangements to prevent his deployment. Alexander returned to Apia sometime around 1903.In 1904, Mr. Moors recommended Alexander as a an Interpreter for the newly established Naval Administration in Fagatogo. It was there that he met a lovely Samoan maiden, Faauliulito Afoa Lutu. She had recently returned from school in Levuka, Fiji. They married at the LMS Church in Fagatogo in 1906. My mother was the fifth of their six children: Oilau Vaimasina Mabel Leausa Forsythe. She was married to Mr. Vaaomala Malaulu Ta'amu who passed away in 1963? and later married Rev. Palafu F. Tili. In 1974, they founded the Long Beach 4th Congregational Church in California and later pastored the Congregational Christian Church at Matatufu-Lotofaga from 1981- 1995. Dad passed away 1995; Mom (Oilau) passed away and interned at Cypress Gardens, California in 1998
