Made a confession which led to the controversial reenactment of the crime by TVNZ in 1999. Already pleaded guilty as the gunman who shot Hon Luagalau Levaula Kamu at the St Josephs Hall and was sentenced to death. Head of State commuted the death sentence and Alatise now serving life sentence at Tuasivi Savaii prison. He is the son of Leafa Vitale. Alatise Leafa's wife and children have been granted passage to NZ and are reportedly under a witness protection programme.Alatise is now expected to take the witness stand against Leafa Vitale (his father) and Toi Aukuso. Leafa Vitale Age :54 Residence: Malie and Siumu A former mechanic who worked in Pago Honolulu and other Middle Eastern Countries. Has been a Member of Parliament for his constitutency,Sagaga le Usoga since 1988. Became a prominent Minister of the Hon Tofilau Eti Cabinet in his role as the Minister of Works who "made things happen" with the rural electrification, expansion of piped water and tar sealing of roads throughout the country following cyclones Ofa and Val. His popularity peaked when a stage at the Apia reclaimed area was even named after him. Allegations of contract irregularities and his personal threats of the media led to his fall which started with his replacement as Minister of Works by Hon Luagalau Levaula Kamu under the Hon Tofilau Eti's last Cabinet and which was precipitated when he was reshuffled from the Post and Telecom to the Women Affairs portfolio in 1999 by Prime Minister, Hon Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi. Toi Aukuso Gus Cain Age : 68 Residence :Vaitele Attended Marist Brothers school and the Sydney Technical College,Australia. A prominent business man and veteran politician. Started his career as an electrician in the EPC for 27 years and built up a successful business in general merchandising and electrical goods and services. Has been in Member of Parliament for the constituency, Faleata West since 1976. As a politician he has been a key strategist and operator in the organisation of the political moves between the general elections and the election of the PMs. A close ally of Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese at the beginning of his political career and then switched to the HRPP party. A former Minister of Agriculture and then Post and Telecom under Hon Tofilau Eti's Cabinet. The fall from popularity in politics started when in the last Cabinet of Hon Tofilau Eti, Toi was not given a post. Bad health also slowed down Toi in the last few years preferring to concentrate more on his golfing skills. |
