iPasifika Upgrades Training Skills
iPasifika attains MCSE and CCNA certification APIA, SAMOA - March, 2001 - iPasifika (Internet Pasifika Samoa Ltd) is pleased to announce that a staff member has attained MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) and CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) status. Microsoft is off course the predominant software company in the world, whilst Cisco provides 90% of the Internet networking infrastructure. The certifications were earned by Managing & Technical Director, Aitken Fruean, who also happens to have a CNE (Certified Novell Engineer) as well as a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and a Master of Science in Computer Science. Mr. Fruean has over 15 years experience in the IT industry specializing in Internetworking and Systems Integration and as such merely sat the exams without taking the required courses. Fruean said, "My intention is to provide training for iPasifika's own staff members whilst we are waiting for my MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer) accreditation to be approved. With my 5 years experience as a Lecturer at the Auckland Institute of Technology (now AUT), this should be a formality." We have already sent other staff members on Microsoft training courses but have found that the short time allowed (3-5 days) is not conducive to retaining knowledge. A period of 2 to 3 months would be more appropriate. Once we receive Microsoft Educational accreditation, we will then be able to offer these courses to the general public. Fruean says, "It makes more sense to use our own Samoan people then to keep relying on expatriates. The talent is here. I already have first hand experience of that in my own staff, it merely needs nuturing and expert mentoring. At the end of the day we need to rely on our own people to get the job done in our own country."
