What were some of
the highlights of this evening as you saw it?
- One of the
highlights was the suspense of the entire evening. Going on and off
the stage not particularly sure whether you did well or not. Weeks
of preparations boiled down to event, it was the final opportunity
to present yourself. It was seemingly the last night to soak up all
the attention from the community
Did you dedicate
this win to someone? Who was it, and why? (Please don’t fill it in if
you’re not comfortable)
- I dedicated my win
to a few people, especially my parents, sponsors and my tiny village
in Auala Savaii in Savaii.
What were some of
the highlights during your reign?
- My reign as Miss
Samoa presented much success, trials and tribulations. The travel
and pride that Samoan people around the country held in me was
overwhelming. Being Miss Samoa you woke up with the crown, you slept
with it, and you were about your normal duties with the crown. In
the 12 months and beyond that period the people don’t let you
forget. Its nice to be recognized & remembered.
Briefly describe your
career path after your reign as Miss Samoa.
- By the year 2000 I
was supposed to take on further studies, but have been delayed for
another year. My ultimate career path is to complete my studies in
psychology as I intended to contribute my time to helping the people
of Samoa overcome the horrifying rate of suicide.
Briefly tell us what
you do at present? (Business, studying etc..)
- I have completed a
contract with the Millenium Society, and am looking into another
contract. Most importantly my partner and I are starting a family.
- What do you hope to
achieve in the next 5 years
- I have set my mind
to achieve a tertiary degree in the Arts majoring in psychology. But
life is full of surprises!
What is your most
valuable advice to young Samoan women in today’s changing Samoan
community?
- Be open-minded,
remember the world is far bigger than our Samoa. If challenges arise
remember that facing them is more satisfying than running away from
them. And always feel the right to express yourself even when the
odds are against you and as a woman this can happen many times.
"Oh and if you do have the chance see the world"
