E, verb particle. used to denote the 1. simple present or 2. the future tense. Also used with verbs to form the infinitive construction. e.g. e alu nanei. 1. E alu e fagota nei. 2. e fagota taeao.

E, or `E, noun particle. denoting the agent of an action or the subject of a sentence. e.g. Na `ai e Simi le i'a. Simi ate the fish.

E, noun particle. showing the vocative case, used for emphasis as talofa e! used for calling people, example: "Simi! Simi e!"

`E, pron. you (singular), used before the verb. see `OE.

E, relative pron. they who, those who, who. `Amu'ia e agamalu. Blessed are the meek. See LE; SE.

EA, v. to surface. Ea ia i luga.

`EA, n. the air, `o le `ea o Samoa, the air of Samoa.

`EA, interrogative particle. used to denote a question.

E lelei ea le tama? Is the boy good?

E A, expression, what? huh? in order to do what? why? `E te alu e a? why are you going? (You are going to do what?)

E A, v. to free. Ua ea le pologa o le nu'u.

E A PE `A, phrase. what do you think if. How about if (used in making a suggestion). E _ pe `a tatou o i Apia? What do you say? shall we go to Apia?

`EU, v.t. to remove, to take out of the way. So'u `eu `ese le fasi laau i lou mata. Matt. 7:4)

E UI INA, conj. although, notwithstanding, even though. E ui ina faigata le gagana, `o le a ou saga aoao pea i ai. see TIGA ONA; E UI I LEA.

E UI I LEA, conj. however, nevertheless. "Ua timu; e ui i lea, ou te alu pea. It is raining; nevertheless. I will go anyway.

E LE AFAINA, phrase. it doesn't matter, it won't (doesn't) hurt, never mind, it isn't endangered.

ELE'ELE, n. 1. earth, dirt (but not earth in the senseof the world) 2. respect word for blood. lona ele'ele. see TOTO; LALOLAGI; FOGA'ELE'ELE.

ELO, adj. to stink, of something dead. pass elosia.

`EMO, v.i. 1. to wink the eye. 2. to flash, as lightening or a flash bulb.

`EMO'EMO, v.t. to wink on flash repeatedly.

`ENA'ENA, adj. brown, pl. `e'ena, blonde hair, lauulu enaena.

`EPIKOPO, n. bishop.

`ESE, adj. 1. strange, extraordinary. Ua ese lana amio. His conduct is strange. 2. different. E ese lona tama.

`ESE, adv. of direction, denoting direction away from the thing spoken of. Alu ese ma le fale. Go away from the house.

`ESEESEGA, n. difference. lona eseesega.

ESI, n. the papaya or pawpaw, lana esi.

`ETU, v.i. to limp

ETOETO, v.t. to lap up with the tongue,to lick. also ETO.

EVA, v.t. 1. to idle away leisure time, originally applied only to night time, especially by a boy and a girl, but nowadays it is often used synonymously with tafao. see TAFAO.
